Attracted by the location and friendly atmosphere Mathew and Laura Croxford have recently bought The Seven Stars at Kingsbridge in South Hams. Previously run by Sarah Blackburn the business was sold by licensed property specialists Stonesmith of Exeter.
With years of experience in the hospitality and business industry Laura and Mathew are bringing their knowledge to the Seven Stars. Laura has previously run a number of gastro pubs and has also successfully run an Egon Ronay accredited establishment. With this background they feel they have the confidence and ability to make a success of running their new business.
The pub has a good reputation for food but Mathew and Laura would like to develop this further and feel fortunate to have retained both of the existing chefs, who are working closely with them to update the menu. Food will be available all day with the menu offering bar snacks, chef’s specials and a lunchtime and evening choice all of which will be home made. The menu will change regularly and include seasonal produce, fresh fish dishes and locally sourced goods.
There were many things that attracted the pair to the business including the variety of people it attracts, the location, the food, the potential it gave them and the friendly reception from the locals. All in all, it was the total package.
In the near future they hope to also promote the function trade which is suitable for weddings, christenings and private parties, with seating for approximately 60. Their aim is to make the pub “the” place to socialise, drink and eat in Kingsbridge. Customers should soon be able to view the Seven Stars on their web site www.thesevenstars.com
A large town centre pub, the property is situated in the middle of Kingsbridge, an affluent town in the popular South Hams area. It has been refurbished throughout, providing a contemporary theme. In addition to the main bar, which has 30 covers, there is a new conservatory with 36 covers, separate function room with 60 covers, 3 bed owners accommodation, extensive outside trade areas and parking for 15 cars.
A leasehold business, Stonesmith sold the Seven Stars off an asking price of £90,000. Since the new year there has been an increased demand for all types of leasehold pubs throughout the Westcountry reports Mike Phillips of Stonesmith
