Quality restaurant sold to local family
Magdalen Road in Exeter is well known as being one of the cities foodie enclaves. It offers a good range of quality and award winning, food related businesses, which included Petit Mange. The business has now been sold by licensed property specialists Stonesmith of Exeter and has reopened as The Salty Pigeon.
The business has been bought by Tanya James who is opening the restaurant with her son, Ryan Mell, a second year student at the Michael Caines Academy. Ryan will be the first Academy student to open his own restaurant and it will be a dream business opportunity for him. Ryan has had excellent support from Exeter College and, while continuing his studies, he will develop his skills and experience at The Salty Pigeon with the restaurant’s new head chef, Simeon Baber.
Simeon is an established chef who began his career at The Royal Clarence and has worked for various members of the royal family. Simeon is passionate about producing extraordinary cuisine and is hoping that the menu will offer something for everyone. The Salty Pigeon aims to accommodate all tastes and dietary requirements, allowing couples or groups with varying tastes to eat in one place together. In the daytime the restaurant will offer more casual dining and in the evening fine dining.
Tanya and Ryan’s vision is to provide a family-run restaurant, using local free-range products and to produce the best food at the most reasonable prices. The aim of The Salty Pigeon is to provide a new experience to locals and put something back into the community. Tanya is keen to encourage the local residents of Exeter to visit the restaurant and not be put off by any misconceptions that the food will be unaffordable. The ultimate goal is for guests to feel that the exquisite food and exceptional service is something that should be experienced regularly, not just on special occasions.
As well as a new name the restaurant has been repainted and upgraded and now provides 30 covers with various dining areas and a front of restaurant bar. The property also provides a commercial catering kitchen, cloakrooms and storage. Above and separate from the restaurant is private accommodation with 3 bedrooms, a lounge/kitchen/diner and a bathroom.
