Quirky freehouse bought by local businessman
Set in approx 1 acre of grounds and with an open countryside feel, The Pig on the Hill at Pusehill, Nr the North Devon coastal resort of Westward Ho!, has been sold by licensed property specialists Stonesmith of Exeter.
The new owner is a local businessman who knows the pub well and hopes to bringing it back to its hey day. At present he is completely renovating the property and restoring it to its former glory with the aim of providing a good British pub feeling but with a slightly more modern and contemporary style. Matt is opening up the trade areas to provide open plan drinking and dining with 150 to 200 covers.
The new look pub will be family friendly, and the owner has been encouraged by the locals who are keen to reinstate the skittle, darts and petanque teams. He also has local groups keen to use the pub as a base for meetings and social events.
New chefs will provide a varied menu with a leaning towards gastro pub food. They will have the benefit of fresh home grown produce as some of the grounds will be turned into a large vegetable plot.
When it reopens the pub will offer a large open plan bar and restaurant, owner/mangers accommodation, a skittle alley, petanque pitches, trade gardens, veg plot, purpose built childrens play area and large car park for 30 plus vehicles.
The new look Pig on the Hill is due to reopen at Easter 2013 but progress can be followed through the web site www.pigonthehillwestwardho.co.uk and the facebook link.
The Pig on the Hill was sold off an asking price of £299,000 for the freehold.
